The history of “La Riva” Pizzeria Restaurant began in 1970, when coastal erosion had caused most of the sandy shores of the Pisan coastline to disappear. Mario Alessandri and his wife Anna Carmignani take over a small wooden kiosk used as a “bigo” for housing small boats.
It was initially an ice cream bar, which the two managed to transform into what would shortly become a pizza restaurant where quality and courtesy are combined. In 1980, with the reclamation of the Pisan shoreline beaches, Mario was able to plant the first beach umbrella and start what is now one of the oldest bathing establishments in Marina di Pisa. The story has continued to the present day with his son Alvaro Alessandri, who has contributed to the restaurant’s growth with a competent staff, offering customers high quality, a warm welcome and unique dishes in which the flavor of the sea and the tradition of Tuscany come together, creating an exhilarating gastronomic experience.
The Riva has everything you need to spend an ideal day in an ideal place.
Alessio and Clare met in the beating heart of Byron Bay, a charming little coastal town in Australia. This corner of paradise is known not only for its wonderful beaches, but also for its rich offerings of restaurants and multicultural cuisines from around the world. Alessio grew up in the warmth of the Italian culinary tradition and brought it with him all the way to Australia. Gaining experience in the best restaurants in the area, he learned to blend unique tastes and compositions, creating dishes that speak to the heart. Clare, with her extensive experience in the Australian hospitality industry, has brought a breath of fresh air and creativity, having worked in cocktail and tapas bars, as well as high-end cafes and restaurants. After experiencing unforgettable years in Australia, Alessio felt the call of Italy. Once he returned, he decided to take the reins of the family restaurant, proudly becoming the third generation to lead La Riva. The combination of Alessio and Clare’s skills and their cultural differences is the beating heart of La Riva. Each dish tells a story, each flavor is a journey reflecting a love of tradition and innovation.
